Senior Pastor – Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A born again, fully committed follower of Jesus Christ, who has been baptized by immersion.
- Must after prayerful consideration sense the leading of the Lord to take on the role of Senior Pastor with God’s enabling power.
- Must meet the biblical qualifications to hold the office of Pastor as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
- Must exhibit a deep commitment and love for Jesus Christ and His church.
- Must subscribe to, support, and advocate the CBC doctrinal Statement of Faith, and philosophy of ministry as outlined in the church’s constitutional documents.
- Exhibit the gift of teaching and preaching with noted strengths in discipleship development and outreach.
- Must agree to abide by the policies and procedures for all staff at CBC.
- Must be knowledgeable and proficient in the scriptures as a student of God’s Word, possessing sound biblical character expressed through a vivacious faith.
- Must have a strong biblical philosophy of worship.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate these skills in others.
- Seminary-trained or its equivalent.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- A full-time position – At least 40 hours: 8:45am – 4:45pm (5-day work week of which one must be Sunday).
- To help equip members of the body to become mature in the faith and to “do the work of ministry” through the consistent, consecutive, expositional preaching and teaching of the Word.
- To represent the board of elders in the administration and coordination of the overall ministry of Calvary Bible Church.
- To help equip the board of elders to fulfill their ministry as under shepherds, the board of deacons to fulfill their ministry as assistants and to help train up a new generation of leaders in keeping with the word of God.
- Partner with elders, deacons, and other leaders in encouraging and equipping members to be active in evangelism.
- To be accessible to elders, deacons and ministry leaders in the furtherance of the overall effective work of ministry at Calvary Bible Church (including co-ordination of church services, weddings, funerals, dedications, media including Echoes of Calvary, and other ministry related activities).
- Partner with elders, deacons, and other leaders in encouraging and equipping members to be active in relationships of pastoral care (e.g., hospitality, mentoring, visitation, counselling, comforting in times of sorrow and joy etc.).
- To provide – either directly or by delegation – spiritual counsel to members of the body experiencing special and or specific problems / needs.
- To oversee and direct activities of the church staff on a day-by-day basis.
- Any other reasonable responsibilities which may arise.
